| COPING WITH STRESS (1 day workshop) May & November, 1999 Objectives Most people are exposed to various levels of stress in the workplace and other situations. The objective of this programme is to develop healthy methods of dealing with stress and overcoming nervous tensions. This workshop is designed to impart to participants the vital aspects and key concepts of effective team building in the workplace. At the end of this workshop, participants will be more equipped to establish and maintain high performance teams in their departments and sections. Participants This workshop is designed for participants from organisations that work in teams or are in need of training and motivation to work more effectively as members of teams. Course Structure And Content This workshop is presented in modular format and will cover the following topics: What is meant by team work or team spirit The need for team work in a work situation What benefits can be derived from team work What factors foster team work in the work place Encouraging team work What factors can hinder team work What are the characteristics of key players in a team Role play activities ADVANCED COUNSELLING SKILLS (3 day workshop) April & October, 1999 Objectives This workshop, which is designed for practising counsellors, health care providers and NGO workers, will focus on the specific areas of HIV disease, drug dependency and bereavement: HIV patients increasingly expect health care providers not only to be experts in their chosen field, but also to have sensitivity and skills to discuss complex treatment and care issues. This workshop will expose participants to a systematic approach to conversational and problem-solving skills Alcoholism has a destructive impact on both home and the workplace. The workshop will use case studies and role play to illustrate skills that can help clients to confront their own behaviour and take responsibility for creating a positive change in their lives Bereavement is often a time of remorse, regret and deep sorrow with feelings of anger, guilt and despair. This workshop explores the issues of facing death and dying. It will also focus on various ways of helping the client to come to terms with their bereavement. Participants This course is designed for practising counsellors and those who have attended previous counselling skills workshops. Participants are requested to enclose details of their counselling training and experience with their registration form. They are requested to register early for this course so that the course can be designed to meet the specific needs of participants. Participants are also requested to provide case studies for use on the workshop. Course Structure and Content Participants will be involved in group discussions and will practise the skills of empathy, listening and communication. The course will be presented in modules with opportunities for questions, problem experience sharing, case studies and group discussions. ASSERTIVENESS SKILLS (1 day workshop) March & August, 1999 Objectives This workshop is designed to help raise participants social competence and to teach them how to better relate to other people by being open, frank, direct and honest. It also teaches each participant to explore their own unassertive behaviour and attitudes, and to adopt a new confidence in their individual rights in order to become more self assertive. This will also be done through various group discussions, exercises and role plays to practice the skill of assertiveness. Participants Participants will be taught assertiveness skills by being involved in role playing, case studies and group discussions on what assertiveness means. The course will be presented in modules, with opportunities for questions, problem and experience sharing.
